Christian Audigier: Last Months of Life, Hospitalized After Wedding

On Sunday, May 21st, Christian Audigier, who would have turned 65, was seen smiling and enthusiastic under a banner “Never Give Up” at the exit of the Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. The renowned fashion designer, who had built his business in the US with iconic brands Von Dutch and Ed Hardy, had revealed to TMZ that he had been diagnosed with cancer at the start of the year and was now “cancer free”. He had been hospitalized the day before his wedding to Brazilian top model Nathalie Sorensen, whom he had become engaged to in 2013. Christian Audigier had been found to have myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) in January, a disease that affects the production of healthy blood cells by the bone marrow, and which can lead to myelodysplasia, followed by leukemia. Following his operation, he had chemotherapy sessions at his new home, and had to go to Cedars-Sinai Hospital twice or thrice a week for check-ups. Unfortunately, Christian Audigier eventually lost his battle against the disease on July 9th, 2015 at the age of 57. His family and friends paid him a last tribute in his Malibu property two weeks later, as reported by the Daily Mail. The ceremony was filled with rock’n’roll music, open bar, candles, incense – a fitting farewell for the great fashion designer. His ashes were then laid at the foot of the Christ statue in Rio de Janeiro. In 2018, producer Fabrice Sopoglian made a moving documentary about his famous and deceased friend Christian Audigier, which has been rewarded several times since.
