Alessandra “Chicca” Gobbi, a life devoted to music

Alessandra “Chicca” Gobbi, wife of Francesco De Gregori, died today at the age of 71. She had been suffering from cancer for some time, but her health had deteriorated in the past few days. She and the Roman singer-songwriter had known each other since school and had married in 1978 (Walter Veltroni had been their witness). They had two children, the twins Marco and Federico. Together they had also founded a small agricultural company in Sant’Angelo di Spello, in the province of Perugia, which produced a precious oil. Chicca Gobbi shared with her husband a strong passion for music. Together with Francesco De Gregori she had performed in a memorable performance in Anema e Core, in a tribute concert to Pino Daniele. The woman had also taken part in some of her husband’s live shows, trying her hand at choirs, guitar or duets.

A loving relationship remembered

The husband had once said: “I was absolutely convinced that we would stay together“. In an interview, De Gregori had described their relationship as strong and rewarding. He had also said: “Without my wife I get bored and boredom is one of the things that scares me the most”. This morning the news was circulating that the artist’s concert, together with Venditti, scheduled for tomorrow at Villa Bertelli in Forte dei Marmi had been postponed to 18 August.

Funeral arrangements

The funeral of Chicca Gobbi will be held on 22 July in Rome.
