The Sussexes’ Podcast is No More
Spotify has “downloaded” Prince Harry and Meghan Markle: the former actress’ podcast Archetypes will not see a second season. They have now released a joint statement saying they have “agreed to part ways” and are “proud of the series they have created together”. However, according to Variety, citing an anonymous source, Spotify was expecting to receive more material from the Sussexes. The results of the highly touted and super-publicized podcast from the platform were apparently below expectations. And according to the Wall Street Journal, Harry and Meghan, “not having met the productivity benchmark, will not receive full payment”.
The Sussexes’ New Adventures
The pilot episode of Archetypes, in which we also heard the voice of little Archie, was broadcast in December 2020 and created great expectations. Then, after a few episodes in which the Duchess had conversed with influential women, capturing thousands of listeners, nothing more was heard of the Sussexes’ podcast. Now, according to gossip, Harry and Meghan are looking for a new space for their content. After all, since they said goodbye to the royal family, giving up an income of around €680,000 net per year, the Sussexes can’t afford to take a break. They have to work to live. Especially since their expenses are monstrous. Their villa in Montecito, California, alone costs $14.7 million: $5 already paid, the rest in the form of a mortgage.
The Sussexes’ Content Going Forward
The million-dollar agreement with Spotify has fallen through. But the Sussexes still have the even more lucrative one – reportedly around €150 million – with Netflix. The dukes debuted on the platform last December with the documentary Harry & Meghan, in which they had once again attacked the royal family head-on. There is no news of new content for Netflix at the moment. But if it comes, it seems that it won’t target the Windsors. A source told The Sun that the dukes will no longer make “open-hearted” documentaries, will not publish any more bombshell memoirs, and will not grant any more sensational interviews. Because “they have nothing more to say”.
