Throughout his life, Jean-Paul Belmondo was renowned for his ability to charm women. His presence and aura made him a magnet for the female population. At the beginning of his career, the actor had a long relationship with a young Italian actress, which was featured in the documentary La folle histoire de Jean-Paul Belmondo. In the 1970s, the star of the movie Le Magnifique was in a relationship with the beautiful Laura Antonelli, whom he had met on the set of the movie Docteur Popaul by Claude Chabrol in 1972. The couple stayed together for many years until 1980. However, while Jean-Paul Belmondo went on to become famous, the young woman suffered a terrible downfall according to Télé Star. At the end of her life, Laura Antonelli lived “cloistered on the first floor of a charmless building in Ladispoli, about forty kilometers from Rome”. The magazine added at the time: “Her shutters remain closed and her days are the same: plunged into darkness, she listens to sermons on Radio Maria’s antenna”. In order to survive, she received a monthly allowance of 510 euros for indigent performing artists. She only wished to be “forgotten”. According to Le Monde, in 1991, the carabinieri discovered 24 grams of cocaine in her villa in Cerveteri (Latium). She was sentenced to three and a half years in prison, but served it at home where she was assigned, before being acquitted on appeal six years later. The Malizia 2000 project pushed her to undergo cosmetic surgery that disfigured her. Her face was ravaged by plastic surgery, especially collagen injections that had totally disfigured her due to her allergy. She filed a lawsuit against the production that lasted for years and eventually won 110,000 euros in compensation. However, she never got any movie contracts again and passed away on June 22, 2015 in Ladispoli (Rome province) of a heart attack. She was buried in the city cemetery. Jean-Paul Belmondo will always be remembered for his seductive charm and his relationship with Laura Antonelli.
