Violence in France: Another Night of Riots and Violence
The tension has not gone down five days after the death of Nahel (17 years old), killed by a policeman in Nanterre during a road control after refusing to obey. While the young man was buried on Saturday 1st July at the Mont-Valérien cemetery in Nanterre in the presence of several thousand people, France experienced another night of riots and violence. As in the previous days, some mayors were targeted.

Vincent Jeanbrun, mayor of Les Républicains of L’Haÿ-les-Roses (Val-de-Marne), was targeted and his home attacked while he was not there. His home was attacked with a car-rammer in the night from Saturday to Sunday, and his wife and one of his two young children were injured, the elected official announced. Around 1:30 am, while he was at the Town Hall “as for three nights” to face urban violence, rioters “launched a car-rammer on (his) home before setting it on fire to burn (his) house,” he said in a statement published on Twitter. His wife and his “two young children” were sleeping there, he said. It was in trying to “protect” the family and “escape the assailants” that the wife and one of the children were injured, according to the mayor. The woman “was injured in the knee and is currently hospitalized, one of the children was slightly injured,” the mayor’s entourage told AFP. “The two children are very, very shocked,” they added. “All this was carefully orchestrated, with no consideration for the lives inside the house,” according to the mayor’s entourage.
