Queen Letizia’s Speech
Queen Letizia, who once again surprised with a very colorful look, was in charge of giving out the gold medals, and moved everyone with her speech, addressed to the Spanish branch of the Red Cross in Ukraine. “This occasion shows us that, at least for one day, we can feel that, as a society, we are doing things a little better,” she said.
Unexpected Fall
Upon the award presentation, the room experienced a tense moment, as one of the awardees had fallen while climbing the steps leading to the stage. It was the senior member of the Spanish Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology, María de los Ángeles García Antón. After falling on the last step, the Red Cross team immediately went to attend to her. Also, the monarch approached, inquiring about her condition.
Gold Medal Presentation
Finally, García Antón received the Gold Medal of the Red Cross 2023 to the Spanish Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology. Fortunately, everything was just a scare, and the woman was able to get up, standing next to the monarch, who was caressing her arm affectionately.
