Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes: A Love Story

While we’re still single, Ryan Gosling is talking about his family with Eva Mendes. Gosling, who plays Ken in the upcoming Greta Gerwig masterpiece Barbie, has just spoken to GQ about how he balances his career with his parenting responsibilities (he and Mendes share two young daughters), and the gist of the conversation is that he’s really obsessed with Eva and I love it.

Gosling’s Parenting Responsibilities

Since the couple doesn’t have a nanny, Gosling only takes on one movie project a year, preferring to spend the rest of his time at home, being a dad. It’s a role he knew he wanted even while filming The Place Beyond the Pines, in which he and Mendes play a couple who share a child (technically they didn’t meet on set, but it’s there that they got to know each other). “When you asked me about Eva and the kids,” Gosling told the magazine, “I think I said, ‘I didn’t think of kids until she told me she was pregnant,’ but that’s not true. I didn’t want to oversell it, but now I don’t want to undershoot it either. I mean, it’s true that I didn’t think of kids before I met her, but after I met Eva, I knew I didn’t want to have them without her. In The Place Beyond the Pines, there were moments where we were pretending to be a family, and I didn’t want it to be pretend anymore. I realized this would be a really fortunate life.”

Gosling’s Adoration for Mendes

Ryan Gosling seems to have found a kind of nirvana with Mendes, saying that “everything makes sense now” that they’re together. When presented with parenting problems he doesn’t know how to solve, he says, “I lean on Eva. She knows what’s important, always. Somehow she knows. So if I have any doubts, I ask her.”
