The Swedish Royal Palace Releases Official Photos

Estelle and Oscar of Sweden are the protagonists of the new official photos released by the Royal Palace of Stockholm on the occasion of the Swedish National Day, June 6th. The princess, in traditional dress, and her little brother, stylish in jacket and tie, were photographed by Linda Broström at Gripsholm Castle, alone and in front of the portrait of King Gustav I, whose ascent to the throne on June 6th, 1563, decreed the birth of the country. The 500th Anniversary of the Birth of Sweden

In fact, Gustav I abolished the Kalmar Union, which united Sweden, Norway and Denmark, thus giving birth to an autonomous country, although the institution of the National Day is much more recent. A party that this year is special both because it marks the 500th anniversary of that date and because 2023 is also the Jubilee year of King Carl Gustav, on the throne for fifty years.

The Little Princes: Symbol of the Sweden to Come

Nothing better than the little princes, symbol of the Sweden to come, to celebrate. Estelle, 11, heir to the throne, and Oscar, 7, are the children of Princess Victoria and her husband Daniel Westling, with whom they also pose in another official shot. The children are the only ones among the eight grandchildren of King Carl Gustav to have maintained the title of Royal Highness after the sovereign’s choice to deprive the other six of what, today, is more a burden than an advantage. The little princes Leonore, Nicolas, Adrienne, Alexander, Gabriel and Julian will be able to take any path when they grow up, without any obligation to the Swedish royal house. A choice that, in its own way, has set the tone. Queen Margrethe of Denmark also made the same decision regarding four of her eight grandchildren; in her case, however, there have been many controversies: no one liked it. In Sweden, on the other hand, the decision does not seem to have caused any upheaval in the family.
