The 16th Revue des Deux Mondes Prize

This Thursday, June 1st, 2023, the 16th prize of the Revue des Deux Mondes was awarded in Paris. Aurélie Julia, director of the review and Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière, honorary president and owner of a publishing company, awarded this great distinction to Florence Bergeaud-Blackler for her work entitled The Frérisme and its networks, published by Odile Jacob Editions. This award was created in 2008 with the aim of “rewarding and making known an essay published in the year in French, both for its literary qualities and the relevance of its subject in the contemporary debate of ideas”. And one thing is certain, this researcher at the CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research) did not fail to share her emotion: “I am happy and proud that the Revue des Deux Mondes prize comes to crown my book, the fruit of scientific research that I have conducted for more than twenty years, often in solitude or even adversity”, said Florence Bergeaud-Blackler, adding that “this prize honors the daily struggle for academic freedom, research and teaching, and all those who lead it”.

The Jury of the 2023 Edition

Questioned at the award ceremony, Aurélie Julia, director of the Revue des Deux Mondes and president of the jury, recalled that “the members of the jury wanted to reward the quality of a thorough and erudite work on the Frériste movement in Europe as well as the courage of a woman threatened for her research”. She also wanted to remind that “freedom of expression is a fundamental right in France enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and of the Citizen“. In the jury of this 2023 edition, the director of the review had gathered a panel of great names, such as Elise Longuet, François Bujon de l’Estang, Olivier Cariguel, Raphaël Doan, Franz-Olivier Giesbert, Renaud Girard, Thomas Gomart and Robert Kopp.

Numerous Personalities from the World of Art and Letters

Numerous personalities from the world of art and letters were also present at this unmissable literary rendezvous. Among them, the former Minister of Culture Frédéric Mitterrand, the political scientist and essayist Gilles Kepel or the producer Yamina Benguigui, who were very admiring of the work accomplished by Florence Bergeaud-Blackler. This anthropologist presents in her book the internationalization of the Muslim Brothers movement, deployed in Europe.
