Kate Middleton Pianist at Eurovision 2023: Pop Turnaround

In the final night of the Eurovision Song 2023, Kate Middleton, wife of William, surprised everyone by playing the piano with the Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra. This performance, lasting ten seconds, was pre-recorded in the Crimson Drawing Room of Windsor Castle and was intended to reiterate her and the British Royal House’s support for the Ukrainian people. The princess was dressed in blue, one of the colors of Ukraine, and her playing of Stefania, the song that won the Kalush Orchestra the victory in last year’s edition of the European song festival, was viewed by millions of viewers. The royal family has been backing the Ukrainians since the beginning of the war, with Kate and William declaring their solidarity with the President and all of Ukraine’s people through social media.

Middleton has a long history of playing the piano. From 10 to 13 years old she took lessons from Professor Daniel Nicholls, who years ago told the Evening Standard: “She was a lovely and very nice student. I don’t think she wanted to become a professional, but she was good”. The future queen consort has also previously played in public, at the Together at Christmas concert in Westminster Abbey with singer-songwriter Tom Walker in 2021.

With her piano playing, Kate Middleton has once again reiterated her and the Royal House’s support for the Ukrainian people. This is the first time a Windsor has ever performed on television, and it is a testament to the princess’s musical talent and her commitment to helping those in need.
