A Royal Fairy Tale
Prince Amedeo of Belgium and his wife Elisabetta “Lili” Maria Rosboch von Wolkenstein have become parents for the third time, of a baby girl named Alix. The Belgian Royal House announced the happy news on Instagram, posting a (beautiful) photo of the little one with a message of congratulations in which it is specified that Alix “was born on Saturday, September 2nd and weighs 3.4 kilos”. But above all it has brought a lot of “happiness” to the family. And surely she will become the favorite of everyone, including the older siblings who have already met her in the hospital: Anna Astrid, born in 2016, and Maximiliano Lorenzo Hércules, born in 2019.
A Purposeful Decision
The birth of Alix is the latest chapter in a beautiful royal fairy tale. Amedeo, nephew of the sovereigns Philip and Matilda, met Elisabetta fifteen years ago, while they were both studying in London. On July 5, 2014, the two said “yes” in the church of Santa Maria in Trastevere in Rome, the bride’s hometown, daughter of the film producer Ettore Rosboch von Wolkenstein. Before the wedding, however, they did not ask permission from the king. So, under Article 85 of the Belgian Constitution, which provides for the exclusion from succession for “the descendant who marries without the consent of the sovereign”, Prince Amedeo – at the time sixth in line of succession to the throne – had been deprived of his eventual right to the crown, while the Italian journalist and noblewoman Elisabetta had lost the title of princess. Nothing was done by chance: Amedeo, the eldest son of the king’s sister, Princess Astrid, who has always wanted for him and her other children an independent life, had married without the king’s authorization on purpose, because he wanted a “normal” life, away from the protocol. So it was, even though King Philip reversed the decision on November 24, 2015, allowing Amedeo and his wife to officially resume the titles of Prince and Princess of Belgium.
