Beyoncé’s 42nd Birthday

Beyoncé was busy with her Renaissance World Tour on Monday 4th September and didn’t even take a break for her 42nd birthday. That evening, she was on stage at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and was surprised with an exceptional “serenade”: the “Queen of Disco”, 79-year-old Diana Ross, joined her on stage, sang Love Hangover with her and then sang Happy Birthday, involving the voices of the seventy thousand spectators.

Celebrity Attendees

Many VIPs were present at the concert: from Justin Bieber to Adele, from Katy Perry to Timothée Chalamet, who made his public debut with his girlfriend Kylie Jenner. Kim Kardashian was also there, who in her Instagram Stories shared the video of the meeting between Diana Ross and Beyoncé writing: “A birthday song from @dianaross”.

Beyoncé’s Moving Speech

After that touching moment, Beyoncé hugged the “Queen of Disco” with tears in her eyes and then said: “This is the legendary Diana Ross. I wouldn’t exist without you. Thank you for your sacrifice and your beauty. Thank you for opening the doors for me”. Immediately after, the pop star began a long and moving speech for her birthday: “My soul is full. I’m so grateful that I’m trying not to cry. I’m grateful to be alive. I’m grateful to be on stage. I’m grateful to look out and see your faces. I’m grateful for the music, for the ability to heal myself through music that then heals all of you”. Beyoncé continued with a very long list of thanks, a kind of prayer: “I’m grateful to all of you guys who have been with me since 1997. I’m grateful for every flaw, for every wrinkle. I thank you for being here at 42 years old. I’m grateful for joy and I thank God”. In her speech, the pop star did not forget to remember the dark moments: “I’m grateful for every tear, for every year. I’m grateful for my children. I’m grateful for my husband. I’m grateful for all the shit we’ve been through”. This is probably a reference to the time when she discovered that rapper Jay-Z, from whom she had the twins Sir and Rumi, was unfaithful. The singer was the first to speak of her husband’s infidelity, taking on a certain “Becky with the good hair” in her 2016 album Lemonade. The following year, Jay-Z himself, in a confession interview with the New York Times Style Magazine, admitted to cheating on his wife (without revealing the name of his lover) and spoke openly about the suffering experienced by Beyoncé: “The hardest thing is to see the pain you have caused reflected on someone’s face and have to face yourself”.
