Mathieu Kassovitz Victim of Serious Accident
On Sunday, September 3rd, French director and actor Mathieu Kassovitz became a victim of a serious accident on the track of the Linas-Monthléry racetrack, south of Paris. An enthusiast of motorcycles, he was taking part in a driving improvement course when he lost control of his two-wheeler and went off the road after a curve, ending up on a safety barrier. The impact then threw him outside the track, where he ended up violently on the ground.
The Accident Happened in Front of the Eyes of His Daughter
The fifty-year-old Kassovitz – who revealed himself to the public in 1995 with the film L’odio (which earned him the award for Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival) and was the protagonist of films such as Luc Besson’s The Fifth Element and Costa-Gavras’s The Fabulous World of Amélie – was urgently transported to the nearby hospital of Kremlin-Bicetre. Until this morning, his conditions were defined as “worrying”. However, the latest updates give hope that, albeit not in the short term, he will recover: according to the French tabloid Gala, Kassovitz suffered a head trauma and serious fractures – in particular to the pelvis and ankles -, he is in a pharmacological coma, “but is not in danger of life”.
Kassovitz’s Passion for Motorcycling
Mathieu’s passion for motorcycling broke out about 20 years ago, when he was living in the United States. He got his license in Los Angeles and has been inseparable from two wheels ever since. “I’m a very careful driver. I’ve had too many friends disappear for a moment… Everything goes well, but then… It’s a matter of a second,” he said in an interview some time ago. What exactly happened on the Linas-Monthléry racetrack is still not known. To shed light on the matter, an investigation has been opened. What is certain is that the accident took place in front of the eyes of Mathew’s twenty-one-year-old daughter, Carmen, born in 2002 from his ex-wife, actress Julie Mauduech. Carmen, who followed in her parents’ footsteps, has already acted in important films such as Antoinette Boulat’s Ma nuit and later was in the cast of the series Stalk. Mathieu Kassovitz is also the father of two other children, Max and Ava, from the model Aurore Lagache. According to some sources, they were also at the Linas-Monthléry racetrack when the director and actor went off the track and crashed to the ground with a violent impact.
