Bella Hadid’s Battle with Lyme Disease

A few days ago, 28-year-old Gigi Hadid revealed on social media that her 26-year-old sister Bella had been through a long and intense period of treatment for Lyme disease, a bacterial disorder that was diagnosed in 2012. Now, on Instagram, Bella has provided updates on her condition. With a long post accompanied by several photos – some of which document the medical treatments she has faced – the model revealed: “Finally I’m feeling better”.

The Symptoms of Lyme Disease

Lyme disease is an infection transmitted by tick bites and caused by the spirochete Borrelia. Initial symptoms cause skin rashes, which can be followed weeks later by neurological changes and even cardiac and rheumatic complications.

Bella’s Journey of Gratitude

Bella, who suffers from this pathology like her mother Yolanda and her brother Anwar, in her new Instagram post remembers the long years spent fighting the disease. Saying she is proud of her journey: “The little me who suffered would be proud to have grown up this way and never give up”. The 26-year-old then, in the post, thanks everyone who has always supported her over the years: from her always present mother to the doctors. And she says she is grateful to life for getting where she is now: “Being so sad and sick despite enjoying many privileges and opportunities, and being surrounded by love, was probably the most alienating feeling I have ever experienced“. I’m doing well, don’t worry. And I wouldn’t change a thing. If I had to go through all this again, to get here, in this exact moment when I am, with all of you, finally healthy, I would do it all over again”. Because “it was worth it”: after years of “invisible suffering”, today, “God willing”, she has “so much love” to give. And “so much gratitude towards life”. The model in her message does not forget those who are suffering: “The universe works in the most painful and beautiful ways, but I assure you that if you fight things will get better. Take a step back, be strong, have faith in your journey, walk in your truth and the clouds will start to clear”.
