Infanta Cristina and Iñaki Urdangarin’s Divorce
It seems that the divorce between Infanta Cristina and Iñaki Urdangarin will never end. First they decided to wait until their daughter Irene reached the age of majority, which she did in June, so they would not have to go to court. Now, when it seemed that the former Duke and Duchess of Palma were finally going to move on from their more than two decades long marriage, everything has come to a halt. Iñaki’s economic demands have exhausted Cristina’s patience, according to her friends, who say she had already put up with a lot, not just now after the appearance of Ainhoa Armentia, but throughout their entire marriage.
Divorce Process Started in 2022
Infanta Cristina and Iñaki Urdangarin started the separation process in January of 2022. Cristina’s attitude, refusing to accept her ex-husband’s proposals, telling him that if he wants to publish his memoirs (for which he has been offered a large sum of money), then he should go ahead, has had an unexpected effect. Not only has Iñaki been left speechless, but the former Duke’s family has decided to break off any relationship with her and stand by him.
Cristina’s Political Family
The Urdangarins do not understand why the Infanta has returned to the Bourbon fold, which has turned its back on her for years. What’s more, they see the Royal Family as the cause of all Iñaki’s troubles. For the Infanta this is almost harder than the divorce, because the Urdangarins have been like her second family and, when Iñaki was in prison and she visited them, they always welcomed her with open arms. But now, that support has turned to coldness and a distance to which Cristina will have to get used to, at least until she signs the divorce, perhaps after the summer. In the meantime she will not be able to go to a place full of good memories for the King’s sister.
