The Last French Winner of Roland-Garros

With Amélie Mauresmo, she has marked French tennis forever: winner of Roland-Garros in 2000 (she is the last Tricolore to have won the tournament, long after her friend Yannick Noah in 1983), Mary Pierce was one of the greatest players of the last decade and remains in the memories of the viewers for her long braid and her pronounced accent, she who is in reality Franco-American.

A Luxury Consultant for France Télévisions

But since then, some had somewhat forgotten her… It must be said that between her coaching activities, especially on the island of Mauritius where she regularly resides, and her other passions (including religion, very important to her), the former player who is now 47 years old was no longer very close to the media. Until these last few years: since 2017, she has been a luxury consultant for France Télévisions and comments on the matches alongside journalists. A job that seems to make her flourish… but which also reminds viewers of her existence every year. And they sometimes seem surprised by her appearance, which changes with the years. Yet she now seems more fulfilled than ever, behind her large square glasses… and she has kept the same smile!

A Different Life Than Expected

It must be said that Mary Pierce, who joined a Pentecostal community a few years ago, did not have the life she dreamed of: “After my career, I saw myself getting married, having children, taking care of my family and not traveling anymore. But that was never the case, so I still travel, I train,” she said wisely. It must be said that all the other players have become mothers around her: Amélie Mauresmo, in particular, had two children (Aaron and Ayla, 6 and 4 years old), just like Justine Henin, her former Belgian colleague, who also won the tournament in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007. Mother of Lalie and Victor, she chose the same career, since she is with her on the terrace of France Télévisions. Also former players, Michaël Llodra and Michaël Jeremiasz are also commentators this year, as are Arnaud Clément, Arnaud Di Pasquale or Pauline Parmentier for the other broadcaster of Roland-Garros, Prime Video.
