Sarah Ferguson Undergoes Surgery for Breast Tumor

The ex-wife of Prince Andrew of York, Sarah Ferguson, has been operated on for a breast tumor. This was made known, with a statement immediately picked up by British media, by the duchess’s spokesman. The diagnosis, according to the note, came after a routine mammogram: “Fergie the Red” had no symptoms. And precisely for this reason she is convinced that her experience will serve to emphasize how important it is to make regular checks.

Successful Surgery at London Hospital

The sixty-three-year-old Ferguson, continues the statement, in recent days “has undergone a surgical procedure” which took place “successfully” in the London hospital King Edward VII, in Marylebone. A private clinic in the center of London where several royals, including Queen Elizabeth II, have been treated. Now Sarah has been discharged and has returned home, that is to the Royal Lodge at Windsor, in Berkshire, where she lives with her ex-husband Andrew.

Family Support and Urging for Regular Checks

“The duchess”, explains the spokesman, “is receiving the best care. The doctors told her that the post-operative prognosis is good”. And she, now, wants “to express her immense gratitude to all the healthcare personnel who supported her in recent days”. The statement specifies that Ferguson “is recovering” and that she has all her family around her. In addition to the ex-husband, from whom she divorced in 1992 but to whom she has always remained very close, there are the two daughters – Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice of York – and the three beloved grandchildren. And the duchess, who little by little thanks to medical care and the affection of her loved ones “is recovering” from a disease of which she did not remotely suspect the existence, in such a delicate moment wanted to send an important message to all women. Reminding them “how important it is”, even without symptoms, “to make regular checks”.
